Pro Hac Vice is a new petite clothing brand inspired by modern petite women who are 5 feet 4 inches tall and under. We’re based in New York City.

We make well-fitting petite clothing with feminine silhouettes, unexpected details, and high-quality fabrics. Our greatest passion is to make clothes that petite women will actually be excited to wear.

We get you – our dresses are expensive, but let us tell you why:

• Our clothing is produced in small quantities - this means higher costs of materials and labor. However, on the other hand it means high quality, thoughtfully made, and unique pieces you won't see many other petite women wearing.
• Our first petite dress collection was designed, developed, and produced in New York City with a women-led development firm and factory, both of which adhere to ethical labor practices.
• Each of our designs feature high-end finishes and unique design elements that require highly skilled laborers as they are more expensive and labor intensive to execute (i.e. clean darting for shape and the intricate back strap system on our Leighton Petite Dress and the baby hems, french seams, adjustable straps, and corset-inspired details on our Dahlia Petite dress).
• Our petite dresses are made from fabrics derived from natural fibers. We chose to use these fabrics because while not perfect, they are more biodegradable and further, they are more breathable and just feel nicer (in our opinion) for spring/summer dresses. These fabrics were also purchased in smaller quantities which also contributes to our higher retail price point.

Our first collection of petite dresses was designed, developed, and produced in small quantities by a women-led design team and factory in New York City.

Our petite clothing is for women who are 5’4” and shorter. In the United States, this is about the height of the average women, but there is a surprising lack of great clothing options for this size category.

A common misconception is that petite refers to thinness, but really, it’s all about height and proportions.

In order for clothing to fit petite women well, we need to do more than shorten hems. In fact, the following adjustments often need to be made:

• Shorter or adjustable straps (the straps on our Dahlia Petite Dress are adjustable!)
• Shorter hems on dresses and skirts
• Higher waistlines on dress bodices
• Narrower shoulders
• Higher armholes
• Shorter sleeve lengths
• Shorter inseams and rises on pants
• Higher knee placements on pants

While our dream is to have a larger and more inclusive size range, since we’re a small business and it is very expensive from a technical design perspective to grade patterns across a large range of sizes, for now, we are offering a more curated size range.

Additionally, while we love the creative side of fashion, we are also embracing our data-driven and analytical side. Based on our initial market research, most of the interest we received was from petite women who wear sizes 00 through 8.

It is immensly helpful to hear feedback as we make decisions for future petite collections.

Our petite clothes will fit best on women who are between 4’11” and 5’4”; however, since we got a lot of interest from women who fell on the shorter end of the petite height spectrum, we fit our clothes on a petite model who is 5’1”, so our items may fit women who are shorter than 4’11”.

We encourage you to take a look at our size & fit notes for each item since we included additional guidance there. Additionally, we provided details on our models’ measurements so you can compare.

We also encourage you to take a look at our size chart which provides sizing in relation to how they’ll fit your body measures.

We accept payments via Shopify Payments which accepts most major credit cards as well as PayPal.

Currently, we do not accept gift cards.

Currently, we ship to all 50 states within the United States.

We’re still figuring out international shipping, but we’d love to try to accommodate you.

Standard shipping usually takes between 3-7 days (possibly faster) and express shipping takes between 1-2 days; however, times may vary. We make every effort to get your order to you as quickly as possible.

If the order has already shipped, we won’t be able to cancel or update the order; however, you can return it once you receive it.

At the moment, we don’t offer exchanges, but you’re welcome to return an item and submit a new order to purchase another style, color and/or size.
